Summer skin in the treatment room: what's we're seeing and how we support it

by Tori Paide on Jun 08 2026
Summer creates a specific kind of skin stress that practitioners see clearly in the treatment room: UV exposure accelerating oxidative damage, air conditioning pulling moisture from the skin while clients sweat it out outdoors, and a cycle of over-cleansing and over-exfoliating because oily or congested skin gets misread as skin that needs to be stripped. The result is a barrier that looks oily or reactive on the surface but is genuinely dehydrated underneath. The instinct to use stronger actives makes it worse. What works is the same principle that guides our approach year-round: support the skin's own regulatory function rather than fighting it. This is the framework we're relying on most right now,  in treatment and at home. BALANCING CLEANSER Role: Cleanse and regulate without stripping Formulated for skin that tends toward oiliness or congestion in warmer month Removes sunscreen, sweat, and environmental buildup without disrupting barrier lipids Supports sebum regulation so skin doesn't overcompensate after cleansing Summer is when we make the switch from the Rejuvenating Cleanser for many clients. Skin that feels oily in heat and humidity responds better to a cleanser that addresses sebum regulation directly, without the stripping that makes oiliness worse. REPLENISHING MIST Role: Immediate hydration and prep Willow bark supports gentle exfoliation and improved absorption without abrasion Helps reduce post-cleanse tightness, especially in air-conditioned environments Can be used between layers during treatment and throughout the day Applied to damp skin, this step maintains hydration through temperature changes and keeps the skin receptive to what follows. CELLULAR C SERUM Role: Antioxidant support and brightening Addresses oxidative stress from UV exposure without irritation Supports collagen synthesis and helps even post-sun pigmentation over time Lightweight enough for summer skin without heaviness This is a powerhouse product for summer.  Vitamin C applied consistently through the season works with the skin's recovery process rather than waiting until damage is visible. BIOACTIVE REGENERATING OIL Role: Lipid replenishment Restores barrier lipids lost to UV exposure, heat, and environmental stress Supports elasticity and helps reduce dehydration rebound Compatible with oily and combination skin - lipid-depleted skin often presents as oily The facial oil step is one practitioners sometimes question in summer. The skin needs lipid support regardless of season and skin that appears oily is frequently lacking the right lipids, not lipids in general. The most effective summer protocols are often the simplest. Supporting barrier function, addressing oxidative stress, and maintaining lipid balance gives the skin what it needs to stay resilient through heat, sun, and the dehydrating effects of indoor environments. This framework adapts across treatment room and retail — making it straightforward to guide clients through summer without overcorrecting or overwhelming skin that is already under stress. ← Back to blog
